Public Position Statement: Ardmore Pool Closure

The Ardwood Civic and Ardmore Progressive Civic Associations recognize the Ardmore Avenue pool and its importance to the greater Ardmore community as a place for recreation, public gathering, and relief from summer heat. We understand the Ardmore public swimming pool must be closed during 2025, due to scheduled construction and renovation activities for the Ardmore Avenue Community Center, pool facilities, and the addition of a new splash pad, all of which have the Civics’ support. The construction schedule has little flexibility due to requirements of the public funding source. The loss of pool usage during the Summer 2025 season is of particular concern and a hardship for the community.

The Ardmore Civic Associations support the following actions during the shutdown:

  • Seeking partnerships with other pools that are walkable for residents

  • Offering jobs at the Belmont Hills pools to Ardmore pool staff

  • Frequent communications and updates to LMT residents

  • Conspicuous on-site signage, dedicated webpage for public communication including a timeline for the project

  • Evaluating alternative transportation for residents to/from the pools

  • Ardmore Pool memberships purchased at the standard rate should be honored at Belmont Hills Pool. Ardmore residents should not have to bear the additional cost.

We appreciate the Township's significant investments in Ardmore, including the Ardmore House expansion, ADA ramp at the Ardmore library, PALM renovation, and AACC/Vernon Young project, as well as the South Ardmore Park playground and St. Pauls tot lot renovations. However; Township residents have been voicing concerns about a lack of notifications and construction information, particularly for the playground and pool closures. The Civics role is to keep the community informed and engaged. To move forward effectively, we would benefit from more open communication and information sharing with the Township.
